Exploring SSAS data folder – by Vidas Matelis

In this presentation you will review how SSAS stores MOLAP data in database folder. We will review database folder structure and different file types that are created by SSAS.  Then we will use that information to review how to:

  1. Identify time when cube/measure group/dimension was processed
  2. Calculate size of the cube/measure group/partition/dimension and attribute
  3. Calculate size of the indexes, aggregations and size of data in cubes and dimensions
  4. How to identify if your aggregations and indexes where dropped after updating attribute value in flexible relationship.
  5. How to identify if partition that does not have slicer specified contains just data that you were expecting to be there.

 Site Migration

We are in the process of switching hosts to PASS.  This will allow us to better manage the site without having to deal the maintenance of servers.  Well, hopefully. :)

From local user groups and special interest groups (SIGs) to webcasts and the annual PASS Community Summit the largest gathering of SQL Server professionals in the world PASS enables knowledge sharing, in-depth learning, access to the Microsoft SQL Server team, and the ability to influence the direction of SQL Server technologies. PASS was founded in 1999 by Microsoft and CA and continues to enjoy executive level endorsement from both organizations. As the number one user community for Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft looks to the PASS community for valued feedback, input, and inspiration. PASS Mission Empower the global Microsoft SQL Server community to connect, share, learn and be inspired through networking, knowledge sharing, peer-based learning, and the ability to influence the direction of Microsoft SQL Server products and services.
